Why does yngwie use a brass nut

Post Sun Feb 22, pm You'd imagine that by now' he would have equiped his strat with a Floyd Rose system. But then again he's Yngwie.

Post Mon Mar 01, am Many years ago he actually had one of his Strats equipped with one of the original-type Floyd Rose bridges, the one with no fine tuners Even this instrument didn't use the locking nut; it was used with his standard brass nut.

No fine tuners. The strings clamp into non-pivoting saddles I have one of the 'production' versions of this. It's an interesting piece of history. Kramer eventually used some of these on some of their Focus series guitars Joined: Oct 4, Messages: 80 Likes Received: 0.

A good nuts a good nut no need to change if it's not causing any problems, I have played a brass nut and I like that normal nuts a lot better. Not worth the hype man! I would however suggest a easy test to quantify the "sound". Fret any string up at about the 5th fret, pluck it and listen.

Then slip a small piece of a material other than brass between that string and the fretboard very near the brass nut, high enough to lift the string out of the nut pluck listen. Any difference in "sound" should be audible.

I too think that there may be little change in tone, BUT, every little thing about one's guitar and rig contribute to an overall sound. Mostly, I want to know if anyone here has put a brass nut on their Strat, and if so, which one they chose, because I want to pick the one that fits my Strat's dimensions the best.

I must be one of those people with "Golden Ears" because I can tell a difference between saddle material, block material, different cables, etc. Now of course these differences often times become minute or imperceptible during gigs, but I love good tone especially when jamming at home! Messages: 4, The nut won't affect your tone. Record yourself before and after and see if you can tell. Obviously the most important thing about the nut is that the strings don't bind up there.

Function first!
